Summary:
How to migrate a backupset and any associated data from one computer to another?
Applies to:
Software: Online Backup Manager
Version: 5.X.X.X & up
OS: Windows (All)
Description:
It is often better practice to migrate a corresponding backupset to a new computer rather than create a new backupset and deleting the old. There are 3 main things to check/adjust.
- Enable the existing backupset schedule to run on the new computer.
- Adjust the "Backup Source" to match the new paths
- Change the "Temporary directory for storing backup files" if applicable.
- Users migrating from a Windows XP based system to a Vista or Windows 7 system should notice that the user profile and this the "My Documents", "Desktop", "Outlook", etc will all be in an entirely new path. Because the old paths are not available on the new system to show you, you will notice that some of the selections in under "Backup Source" >> "Advanced" will be gray'd out, but nothing is actually selected.
